We are thrilled to share that the outstanding Mission here at the Alaskan Úlfhé∂nar has the opportunity to receive a grant from JAZZforPEACE to host a world-class cultural event and fundraiser. This event, the first historic Jazz for Peace Concert in the History of Alaska, aims to elevate our organization “From Where We Are Now to Where We Need To Be,” similar to the support Jazz for Peace has provided to over 850 other causes.

JAZZforPEACE strives to increase funding for peace initiatives, and supporting outstanding causes like ours is a vital step toward this goal. Letter for Peace by our Shaman
Peace. A word that means so many different things to so many people. Peace of mind, peace of the spirit, and certainly peace within the societies in which we call home. The idea of peace indicates that we, as humanity, discover what it means intrinsically to be equal to our fellow life form. It means that we toss out the idea of division and offer a different path to that of hate and distrust. Where humanity arrives at the understanding that violence, to the extreme of genocide, does not change its collective thought process about its place in this existence.
As a proud Norse spiritual teacher here in southcentral Alaska, I have discovered that peace begins with each of us changing our perspective, and instead of needing to have superiority over others, we come to realize that our greatest gift to our fellow lives on this planet is kindness and equality. We see it every day if we are willing to look for it. Many times, we are blinded to it by a media that requires the sensationalism that sells airtime and print space. Opinions are no different than the brutality of violence, in that they can all share the same time and space, yet today many seek to have their opinion matter more than anyone else’s. It is truly a mental struggle.
I believe that the key to peace is to minimize the support base that war and anger stand on. As more and more people seek peaceful negotiations to resolve differences and begin to understand that these differences is what makes us so wonderful. Then, and only then, will a societal shift towards peace be initiated. However, this realization is difficult because we currently have those that so desperately crave power over others. This mindset has been engraved in the minds of humans since the days those humans began walking on two legs. But it can be changed. We can come back into balance with the earth, with each other.
You are absolutely right in trying to change the funding sources for peace. I believe that many in this world we call home are more than ready to “give peace a try”, albeit only in donative values that others can see. Again, seeking to be the “better” person for what they have done. Not only do I support the Herculean efforts of “Jazz4Peace”, but I would also ask that more and more messages of peaceful understanding be repeatedly broadcast across all the airways be undertaken. By repeating a message of peace, and the necessity of understanding, we can indeed begin a process of undermining the perceived need for war and conquest. The idea of superiority in any form has no place in society, and there should never be a need for war.
In the future, I personally am looking at forming a large area here in Alaska where these ideas of peace, harmony, and human evolution can start. Joining together with other groups around the world in broadcasting events that demonstrate the potential for harmony and peace among all peoples, regardless. Where people can come to learn how to release the mindsets of power-hunger, greed, and superiority. Where we can fully embrace a violence-free life, while teaching others through many different outreaches, to do the same.
I for one, fully support raising our global funding for peace to 2% of each nation’s revenue, while reducing their “National Defense” at least 1%. I look forward to being included in your distribution of awareness for a life of peace for all peoples.
