Lǽring: Understanding our path

Hello my friends, before we get to todays message. Remember, you can listen to these, as well as our weekly podcast on our website at forn-sidr.akoutlaw.com. As well, you can find the written copies of these shows that you can pass on to those individuals who may be hearing impaired. Today I’d like to talk about identifying, and developing our life’s path. The monotheistic churches attempt to reconcile the differences between “free will” and the infinite being they tried to convey to their congregations, however, based on the simplistic reality of physics, the future could already be known, or it wasn’t. Now, to start this discussion in earnest we need to identify the Norse beliefs of my ancestors.

In Norse legend, there were three Nornir sisters who determine the lifespan, and the hall of eternity (until Ragnoråk) for humans on Midgard.

Urdr is first and provides the length of our lives.

Skáld is next, however she doesn’t appear to us until our spirit departs our human vessel. Skáld reviews the tapestry sewn by her sister, Verdandi. It is this tapestry that eternity is selected based on our deeds and our death. Pending the decision of Skáld following our departure we would escorted to the a great hall where there would be mead and feasting for eternity, or at least until Ragnoråk (modern monotheism describes as Armageddon).

However, to bring our attention back to what I call “the dash”. The dash represents the time spent between meeting the sisters. Our life. Our life is a series of decisions that we make based on information we gather from “the fates” interacting with us, and our surroundings. In addition, the Landvætti would nudge us (either physically, or telepathically) in the direction they thought was best to go. The decision was ours to follow their lead or not. Unlike the monotheistic beliefs, the future is not carved in stone, it can be changed.

As an example, when reading the runestones, if one didn’t like the outcome (reading), the onus was on the individual to make a change in their lives to alter the reading. If one was pleased or satisfied with what the runestones said in the reading, then one continued on with life without change.

Ultimately, the writing of events to one’s life tapestry was purely in our hands. The gods didn’t write the tapestry, nor did they alter it, they too could simply read it. Now, if we decided to follow the path of Loki, or even Hel herself, we could plot our way to reside eternally with her. But, ultimately that decision was ours. We made the choices. If our life’s path seemed to be contradictory to what we want, then the onus was on us to make the change that we want. Our tapestry keeps track of our trials and tribulations, as well as our success and victories within our physical lifetimes.

We are the masters of our path, and ultimately the writing of our personal tapestry. We possess the power to change the trajectory to align with our desires. Its not just “wanting” a different outcome, but the action steps to make the change in direction. We have that power, do not think that your path (and final outcome) are written anywhere. Man the rudder of our life, and make the change.
