As we seek to understand the influences that we have experienced, as well as the experiences we’ve yet to have, we search for an answer as to what force we must keep in reserve to help us on our path toward our destiny. To visualize these influences and counter-energies, we will call upon the layout of the “four winds” that we may learn of our adversaries and allies in our mental battle for safety.

Perthro (Inverted)- “It could mean unknowability, fantasy, delusion, loneliness, stagnation, emotional or psychological addictions, or doom.”

Hagalaz – “It could mean an inner harmony, completion, corrections, controlled crisis, changes for the long-term good, change according to ideals.”

Future Influences
Ehwaz – “It could mean friends, loyalty, marriage, trust, teamwork, and harmony.”

Each morning, I engage in prayer, or communion with my gods. Each day they offer me wisdom and knowledge, and in return I offer them myself that they may do with me that which they need to. I have felt the gods manage my engagements throughout the years, and especially lately, engaging me in a multitude of ways. Today, I offer to you that which was told to me by the gods in this morning’s prayers. 

 

To reveal the influences of our past, we have drawn the rune of Perthro, and today Perthro offers us cautions that we should consider. Typically, in an inverted state, Perthro speaks to delusions, fantasy, stagnation, and psychological addiction, however, today Perthro, being in our past says that we have conquered those thoughts and desires, beaten back those influential energies. We would do well to remember these lessons and retain them for the path ahead.  

 

Our present influence is that of Hagalaz, the rune of chaos. Because Hagalaz has been revealed in our present, this indicates that we have initiated a change in our mindset, our way of being. Hagalaz indicates the changes are for the long-term good, so the path that we have chosen in our lives will serve us well to reach the next stage in our lifetimes. Hagalaz reminds us of our inner harmony, and living according to our values. This will serve us well moving into our future. 

 

To further reveal our future influences, we have drawn the rune of Ehwaz, the rune of trust. As always, our future relies on the choices that we initiate today, therefore we must trust in ourselves to make the right choice of our path forward. Ehwaz also reminds us that we are never alone in our journey, for we have friends among the physical plane that we may not have discovered yet. Our ancestors stand ready to assist us in every step we take. The universe is filled with those to support us. 

 

To understand what influences we should retain, we have drawn the rune Laguz. Laguz reminds us of having the ability and willingness to invoke the powerful energy of hope. Dreams, and the astral plane are powered and supported by the eternal energy of hope. We must kindle and continue to stoke the furnace of hope within our existence. Even when our circumstance seems to be at its worst, hope is the energy that can change our reality. Hold on to it with both hands.
