As we seek to understand the influences that we have experienced, as well as the experiences we’ve yet to have, we search for an answer as to what force we must keep in reserve to help us on our path toward our destiny. To visualize these influences and counter-energies, we will call upon the layout of the “four winds” that we may learn of our adversaries and allies in our mental battle for safety.

Each morning, I engage in conversation with my gods. During which they offer me wisdom and guidance, and in return I offer them myself that they may do with that which they need to. I have felt the gods manage my experiences throughout the years, and especially over the last several decades, engaging me in a multitude of ways. Today, I offer to you that which was told to me by the gods in this morning’s talks. However, as I offer you the wisdom given to me, I encourage you to seek the answers within yourself, as each of us travels a different path, therefore our perspectives are a little different. 

To reveal the influences of our past, we have drawn the rune of Jera. Jera represents the cyclic repeating of lessons and/or functions of the physical realm. It is meant to remind us that exhale follows the inhale, and that summer always follows winter. It is the balance of those experiences we have on this realm with the emotional states that follow, all part of the never-ending cycle of our existence. Remember, when life is at its darkest, the dawn is soon to arrive.

Our present influence is that of Wunjo. Wunjo represents the wishful thinking, and our ability to maintain the energy of hope, even when things seem to be overwhelming in the other direction. We do control our intrinsic narrative, and can choose to succumb to the negatives of existence, or to change our trajectory to that of harmony, joy and happiness. No one else can take that which you refuse to give. Hold on to hope.

To further reveal our future influences, we have drawn the rune of Hagalaz, the rune of chaos. Our future is not written yet, we have the opportunity to alter our trajectory in any way we desire. Hagalaz represents the establishment of order within the chaos which is our physical existence. We alone control our destiny and our path toward that destination. Our future position here shows that we are indeed taking the reins to control the direction of our lives.

To understand what influences we should retain, we have drawn the rune, Laguz, and today it reminds us of cautions. While the rune reveals much about toxicity and poison, it is our caution to avoid these pitfalls along our path. Laguz, today, reminds us again, that we are in charge of how we feel, thereby dictating what we experience in this reality. Remember, we can choose to see whatever future we wish to see. Stay strong in yourself.

How can we use this today?

Today the runes remind us of taking control of our trajectory to our desired destination. By being willing to deny negative, or influential energies entering into our thought process and emotional state, we begin the process of charting our own course through this lifetime. We have the power to change at will.
