As we seek to understand the influences that we have experienced, as well as the experiences we’ve yet to have, we search for an answer as to what force we must keep in reserve to help us on our path toward our destiny. To visualize these influences and counter-energies, we will call upon the layout of the “four winds” that we may learn of our adversaries and allies in our mental battle for safety.

Each morning, I engage in prayer, or communion with my gods. Each day they offer me wisdom and knowledge, and in return I offer them myself that they may do with me that which they need to. I have felt the gods manage my engagements throughout the years, and especially lately, engaging me in a multitude of ways. Today, I offer to you that which was told to me by the gods in this morning’s prayers. 

To reveal the influences of our past, we have drawn Ehwaz in an inverted state. In an inverted state, Ehwaz is issuing us a cautionary tale of remembering the trust you have establised within yourself, as well as with others. Ehwaz is the rune of trust, while there may have been betrayals, and disharmony in your past, we must be reminded that we need to leave it there, in our past. Moving forward means leaving unproductive, and valueless memories behind as we seek a new path of growth and love.

Our present influence is that of Dagaz, within this space would indicate a form of enlightenment. While Dagaz indicates that we are experiencing a paradigm shift in our thinking about our spiritual path, which means we are breaking free from the molds of understanding that have pre-dated our existence by several millennia. Dagaz represents the spiritual awareness and awakening that we seek, and being in our present, this would indicates that we have engaged a journey toward that goal.

Today, Algiz in an upright state indicates that we have begun in earnest, to seek that which lies outside what the physical sensory input can absorb, the realm of the spirits. We will begin a journey of discovering what lies out there in the unknown of our future by connecting to our deities, the spirits, and especially our ancestors. This rune, in this position, indicates that we have begun a connection to the higher form of life for ourselves.

To understand what influences we should retain, we have drawn the rune Othala. Othala, which is the rune of the ancestors. It speaks to us today about embracing the ancestors, as well as the wisdom they offer us in our modern-day existence. As we further embrace our ancestry as a needed resource in our life, we will find mental freedom as they offer us the knowledge, of both our present and our future pathways. Have conversations with them to receive more intellect and knowledge in which to construct the wisdom about existence. Othala unites us with the entirety of our ancestry.
