As we seek to understand the influences that we have experienced, as well as the experiences we’ve yet to have, we search for an answer as to what force we must keep in reserve to help us on our path toward our destiny. To visualize these influences and counter-energies, we will call upon the layout of the “four winds” that we may learn of our adversaries and allies in our mental battle for safety.

Past Influences

Gebo- “The psychological aspects are appreciation, forgiveness, and gratitude. Its energy is the dissolution of barriers through gifting, sacrifice, and exchanged powers. When it appears in divination, it could mean divine vision, sacrifice, honor, magical exchange, gift, and generosity.

Present Influences

Raidho – “The psychological meaning is self-mastery, freedom from imprisonment, and the story “form” in the psyche. Its energy is presence, rhythm, and cosmic cyclical law. When it appears in divination, it means journey, ordered growth, justice, action, sound advice, or rationality.

Future Influences

Ihwaz- “The psychological meaning is kundalini, the timeless, and death mysteries. Its energy is the chakra system, immortality, encoding, secrecy, and an axis of heaven-earth-hell. If Ihwaz appears in divination, it could mean protection, initiation, endurance, and movement toward enlightenment.

Thurisaz  – “Psychologically it represents male sexual prowess, struggles against unconsciousness, and enthusiasm. Its energy is destructive storms, breaker of resistance, active defensive force, chaos, self-empowerment, and enthusiasm. When Thurisaz appears in a divination reading, it means constructive conflict, regenerative catalyst, vital eroticism, directed forced, or reactive force.

Each morning, I engage in prayer, or communion with my gods. Each day they offer me wisdom and knowledge, and in return I offer them myself that they may do with me that which they need to. I have felt the gods manage my engagements throughout the years, and especially lately, engaging me in a multitude of ways. As we delve into our past to determine what lessons we might have received, Gebo reminds us about several very powerful tools to help us move forward. The first is the tool of appreciation. This is a mental action. Mentally embracing the understanding of true appreciation for the experiences within our lifetime. The other, forgiveness. While this concept came along much later in the evolution of our minds, the necessity of letting go of the negative energy is certainly understood with this word.

Our present influence is that of Raidho. Understanding the moment our consciousness inhabits brings a mastery of the self. The present speaks of being able to alter our trajectory in an effort to obtain peace within the mind. In today’s reading Raidho in an upright position indicates that we are initiating a new path of ordered growth, and have accepted sound advice regarding our path.

To reveal our future influences, we have drawn Ihwaz, the rune of the divine feminine. As we move forward into our future, the understanding of the power of the divine feminine, or kundalini. Today, we need to ponder our future as we prepare ourselves for the many changes that will occur within the energy passing through the body’s chakra. Our future tells us that we have initiated a journey toward the enlightenment we seek within the spirits, embrace the energy and you will be moved in that direction.
