As we seek to understand the influences that we have experienced, as well as the experiences we’ve yet to have, we search for an answer as to what force we must keep in reserve to help us on our path toward our destiny. To visualize these influences and counter-energies, we will call upon the layout of the “four winds” that we may learn of our adversaries and allies in our mental battle for safety.

Ehwaz- “It could mean an enemy, indecision, nightmares, betrayal, mistrust, disharmony, and duplication.”

Present Influences

Uruz (Inverted) – “It could mean brutality, insensitivity, uncontrolled rage, ignorance, sickness, inconstancy, misdirected force, obsession, or weakness.”

Future Influences

Tiwaz- “It could mean even-handedness, honesty, victory, analysis, self-sacrifice, rationality, justice, loyalty, and faith.”

Algiz (Inverted)  – “It could mean fear, loss of divine link, consumption by divine forces, or hidden dangers.”

Each morning, I engage in prayer, or communion with my gods. Each day they offer me wisdom and knowledge, and in return I offer them myself that they may do with me that which they need to. I have felt the gods manage my engagements throughout the years, and especially lately, engaging me in a multitude of ways. Today, I offer to you that which was told to me by the gods in this morning’s prayers. 

To reveal the influences of our past, we have drawn Ehwaz. Today, Ehwaz reminds us of the research and discovery that we each did to reveal the value of friends and family. We have watched, sometimes with critical eyes, those within our clan to establish a level of trust with them. These lessons of learning to trust others will serve us well as we move forward into our present, and on into our future. We must always remember the “safe harbor” we have when we reconnect with friends and family. A haven against the foes of negativity and segregation.

Our present influence is that of Uruz, and today, because of its inverted state, the cautions it brings. With Uruz in an inverted state, and in our present, we are given cautions to retain control of our emotional spectrum. For in this state Uruz reveals that we could be swept away on an emotional interchange that can cause lasting damage to our potential for harmony with those around us. Its energy is powerful, so we must remain on our guard that we are in charge of how we feel, and how much we feel of it. There are those around you who wish to see you lose your temper, do not succumb to those influences, retain the control of your emotional state.

To reveal our future influences, we have drawn Tiwaz, the rune of the god Tyr. Contained within our future is the outline of righteousness and honor, but don’t wait for our future before initializing these traits of yours, begin this very minute. The rune speaks of even-handedness, honesty, and mildly important, victory. Victory over those who would see us fall, those who are waiting for the weights of everyday life to burden down our shoulders to the point of collapse. Do not allow this to become your fate, stand tall, for you have already accomplished so much, do not surrender now.

To understand what influences we should retain, we have drawn the Algiz, and today it brings us cautionary tales from the gods. This rune is the rune of listening. Really listening. Observing the cautions issued by the runes, indicates ensuring that we do not subscribe to those who would undermine or destroy our divine link between us and our deities. The energy of Algiz is that of the Valkyries, or the shield-maidens of Frigg. Draw upon this energy to provide a defensive perimeter around our hearts, maintaining our connection to the divine above, and we will withstand these onslaughts.
