As we seek to understand the influences that we have experienced, as well as the experiences we’ve yet to have, we search for an answer as to what force we must keep in reserve to help us on our path toward our destiny. To visualize these influences and counter-energies, we will call upon the layout of the “four winds” that we may learn of our adversaries and allies in our mental battle for safety.

Sowilo – “It could mean faith in outcomes, life purpose, honor, goals, success, hope, guidance.”

Present Influences

Hagalaz – “It could mean an inner harmony, completion, corrections, controlled crisis, changes for the long-term good, change according to ideals.”

Thurisaz (Inverted) – “It could mean strife, annoyance, explosive violence, disease, dullness, betrayal, compulsion, defenselessness, or danger.”

Each morning, I engage in prayer, or communion with my gods. Each day they offer me wisdom and knowledge, and in return I offer them myself that they may do with me that which they need to. I have felt the gods manage my engagements throughout the years, and especially lately, engaging me in a multitude of ways. Today, I offer to you that which was told to me by the gods in this morning’s prayers. 

To reveal the influences of our past, we have drawn Sowilo. Sowilo represents the wholeness, so being that it is in our past today, I am getting the understanding that you have come to realize the entirety of the self. Connecting now our two parts, the spiritual, and the physical sides, becoming whole. Most often this brings with it an understanding or our life’s purpose, restoring our faith in the outcome of our journey. Using the energy of hope, we have initiated a connection between our two halves, to fully embrace who we have become.

Our present influence is that of Hagalaz, the rune of chaos. As we know, there can be no order without chaos, it is a required part of our existence. Chaos shakes things up and makes it different, sometimes not better, sometimes not worse, within our perspectives, just different. Today, Hagalaz being within our consciousness, or present, we find it recognizing the changes within our past experiences. However, it is through this balancing of the selves, that we find an inner harmony, can changes for the long-term good. A great rune to have within our present.

To reveal our future influences, we have drawn Thurisaz, and today it is offering us cautions as we move toward the experiences we’ve yet to have. Thurisaz represents those struggles we maintain against the unconscious, or spiritual mind. While there exists much negative energies here, they are purely cautions we must ensure to embrace to remain clear of thinking, or accepting this type of energy into our self. For if we can see the warning signs before arriving at these negatives, we can surely avoid them, simply by not venturing down those paths. Sometimes it can be fairly easy to fall victim to these types of energies, so knowing they are out there, be cautious.

To understand what influences we should retain, we have drawn the Odinn’s Rune. Odinn’s rune indicates that the gods were unable to fully come to a decision prior to us experiencing this rune tile, however, I engaged in further prayer about energies we should retain. The main thread I received was that of “lessons not baggage”. This indicates that we need to ensure that the memories we have do not have any additional baggage that has no value to us in the current day. These are lessons we learned, it is time to move forward with our lives. Memories that have no value to us to learn any more from us, can be discarded in trade for those memories that bring joy, peace, and love, to our current lives.
