As we seek to understand the influences that we have experienced, as well as the experiences we’ve yet to have, we search for an answer as to what force we must keep in reserve to help us on our path toward our destiny. To visualize these influences and counter-energies, we will call upon the layout of the “four winds” that we may learn of our adversaries and allies in our mental battle for safety.

Past Influences
Othala (Inverted)- “It could mean genocide, racism, xenophobia, homelessness, poverty, slavery, totalitarianism, or lack of customary order.”

Present Influences
Raidho – “It could mean journey, ordered growth, justice, action, sound advice, or rationality.”

Future Influences
Thurisaz – “It means constructive conflict, regenerative catalyst, vital eroticism, directed forced, or reactive force.”

Bedrock (things to remain)
Algiz (Inverted) – “It could mean fear, loss of divine link, consumption by divine forces, or hidden dangers.”

Each morning, I engage in prayer, or communion with my gods. Each day they offer me wisdom and knowledge, and in return I offer them myself that they may do with me that which they need to. I have felt the gods manage my engagements throughout the years, and especially lately, engaging me in a multitude of ways. Today, I offer to you that which was told to me by the gods in this morning’s prayers.

To reveal the influences of our past, we have drawn the rune of Othala, which is issuing us cautions as it is in an inverted position. Othala is the rune of our ancestry. It provides a connection of ourselves to the ancestral energy available to us. However, today it is also issuing its warnings about subscribing to unhealthy mental beliefs that can undermine what direction we wish to travel in our lifetime. At the same time, it also reminds us that each decision we make could return us to some of these unwanted states like poverty, homelessness, etc. We must come to trust that our ancestors will help guide our future path.

Our present influence is that of Raidho, the rune of “From”. In our physical lifetimes we will make many journeys throughout the mind and spiritual travel. In each of these travels, they must initiate somewhere at some time. Raidho reminds us that we have opened a new chapter in our quest toward our destiny and that we might consider the idea that the rules of the previous leg of our journey no longer apply, and we are ready to fully engage our future. Raidho reveals that our present is another exciting step in our journey, and that we must continue to pick up our feet, with action steps, to move forward.

To reveal our future influences, we have drawn Thurisaz, the rune of the god Thor. While the rune itself represents that of the resistance to unconsciousness, we might be well to remember that it is during these brief moments of unconsciousness that we connect to the spiritual realm outside the view of the eye. While there may be constructive conflicts within our psyche, we must remember that we alone maintain the authority to control the flow of energy through our conscious thoughts. By facing the challenges in our life with an abundance of enthusiasm, we are being proactive in driving the narrative of our lives.

To understand what influences we should retain, we have drawn the rune Algiz, and today Algiz offers us cautions as to what bedrock understandings we have that may come under attack of the influences around us every day. The primary understanding here is that we should always retain some level of fear, to be fearless is to be foolhardy. To manage your fear, by drawing on the courage you have inside yourself, is to truly address the fears we have. While we should focus our energies on not losing our divine link, or being destroyed emotionally by divine forces, we do retain the ultimate authority in which to dictate what energies alter the way we perceive our reality.

Today’s Affirmation

The runes today have revealed that our past may have been supplied with an abundance of ugly, and unwanted energies that may have influenced us in the past, however, they are in the past. It is time to move forward. Our present reveals Raidho which indicates this is a new beginning, a change in perspective, a path to more happiness and joy. However, the rune of the god Thor in our future indicates that this is a physical journey too, and we must be prepared to take action steps to get us where we want to be. Remember, a journey is a collection of thousands of little steps, and each one, just as important as the last. Maintain a healthy amount of fear within our mindset, this produces an aura of respect and kindness along the way, but retain the knowledge that you alone are the master of your mind, do not surrender that which you do not want to. Do not succumb to emotional energy that produces no value within your life.
