Each morning, I engage in prayer, or communion with my gods. Each day they offer me wisdom and knowledge, and in return I offer them myself that they may do with me that which they need to. I have felt the gods manage my engagements throughout the years, and especially lately, engaging me in a multitude of ways. Today, I offer to you that which was told to me by the gods in this morning’s prayers.
To reveal the influences of our past, we have drawn the rune of Isa, the rune of Ice . Isa reveals that our past has begun the process of merging our two parts together, creating a unity within our being. By expanding our consciousness beyond that of either physical or spiritual, we have initiated a journey into an intrinsic self-discovery that will unleash our deepest powers and understandings. Isa is the rune that identifies our past journey of discovering the facets within our self-identity and image. It reminds us of the focus that we have had of the self, our mental facilities, all coming together to foster our trajectory to our present.
Our present influence is that of Tiwaz, the rune of the Norse god Tyr. Tiwaz brings to our attention the value of courage. Courage not only to face the unknowns within our existence, but the courage to carry the sword of truth that we may cut through all the bravado within our mind to reveal those connections to our emotional stones within our heart. Tiwaz represents the spiritual warrior, ready to do battle with the negative influences that attempt to alter our thought process to manipulate us into a negative space. We must remain firm in our stand against these influences.
To reveal our future influences, we have drawn Algiz, and today it reveals cautions as it is inverted. While Algiz indicates a state of listening with one’s heart to a higher self, it’s energy is that of the Valkyries from Norse legends. Algiz reveals that our future should contain a level of fear. While this fear must be controlled and balanced by courage, it is always good form to maintain a hint of fear to provide a level of priority for our thought process. Embracing this small level of fear puts a priority and importance on maintaining our divine link to our gods, and management of unwanted energy. Maintaining our safety within the intellect that we’ve gained from our past, we will remain focused on that which we need to be concentrated on.
To understand what influences we should retain, we have drawn the rune Mannaz in an inverted state, indicating caution to retain. While Mannaz reveals the need for contemplation of deep thoughts to establish a perfected intelligence and rational mind, we must exercise caution that we do not become too arrogant and elitist in our view of this intelligence. For as easily as intelligence of the physical plane can be given, it can be taken away. We must remember the tale of Odinn, who traded one of his physical eyes for a drink of the “well of Urd” (opening his third eye to a spiritual realm beyond the physical senses).
Today’s Affirmation
The gods have offered us wisdom and guidance through the runes today. These runes have reminded us of the journey that we have begun. By clearly understanding the path we have consciously chosen we understand that there will be challenges and obstacles that we must overcome. Do not succumb to fearing that which stands before us. By breaking down these larger thoughts and feelings, we can ascertain what exactly needs to be managed to move forward. The rune of Tiwaz represents the god himself of Tyr, he demonstrated an extraordinary courage in the feats he undertook. While our courage must be tempered with a level of fear to provide the priority in managing our emotional state, it should never be too much as to cause us mental paralysis. We are foretold that the method at which to conquer fear is to illuminate it, by educating ourselves and becoming prepared, we can hold the line against, what may be viewed as overwhelming. Take each challenge in smaller portions and we have a much better path to victory, but remember, to retain just a little to ensure our caution moving forward.
